COP31 · Statement of Support

8-10% of emissions come from food that is wasted.

The Irish Government has developed a Surplus Food Sharing Declaration, calling on governments to recognise the role surplus food sharing and redistribution can play in tackling food waste and supporting a more circular food system.

As new EU food waste requirements are implemented, the Declaration provides an opportunity to strengthen the conditions for surplus food to reach people rather than go to waste.

FoodCloud supports the Declaration and is inviting organisations to show their support by signing a Statement of Support.

Our goal for COP31

We can do better with the food we already produce, but we need you to help highlight these opportunities!

Sign the statement of support to highlight how surplus food sharing and redistribution is a core policy lever in tackling the climate emissions associated with our food system and bolster food security.

Secure recognition from countries that are parties to the UNFCCC that food sharing can:
  • Strengthen food security by ensuring surplus food that is safe, nutritious and appropriate reaches people who need it most.

  • Reduce greenhouse gas emissions by preventing edible food from becoming waste.

  • Maximise the value of food produced through safe donation and redistribution.

  • Deliver cost savings and efficiencies across the food supply chain.
